Preview of Day 3 (Friday, October 16) Highlights at the Frankfurt Book Fair 2015

Scheduled events for Day 3 of the 2015 Frankfurt Book Fair include the first session of the Media and Technology Forum, which is part of the New European Media Summit; a discussion of Iranian literature by Peace Prize winner Navid Kermani; and a press conference that reviews the outcome of Frankfurt Undercover, a dialogue taking place during the conference among 30 international authors debating on the issue of extremism.

Business Breakfast: Graphic Novels and Comics

Immigration (Refugees) - Challenge and Chance for Education Publishers

Worldwide the number of people forcibly displaced at the end of 2014 has risen to a staggering 59.5 million. The rising number of refugees are a challenge for many countries, especially for education systems. There are two topics: Integration and the right to Education. How can education systems master these challenges? What is the role of the educational publisher?

Morning Coffee & CEO Talks - The Indonesia’s Publishing Industry

The Business and Culture of Indonesia’s Publishing Industry. Wandi S. Brata of Gramedia Pustaka Utama, Indonesia’s largest publishing house, will speak about his company’s leading position in the Indonesian book industry and give an overview of Indonesia's compelling market environment.

Opening of the „Media & Technology Forum“ and the „New European Media Summit“

Exchanges between worlds: Surmounting boundaries in biography and education

Passing from one culture to another either inspires us with new perspectives, or it throws up challenges and hurdles. Efforts to transcend borders can exist in many dimensions – both personal and institutional. This discussion focuses on how a change of location can influence biography and literature. It looks at the impact of international education projects on national university systems.

Frankfurt Undercover – Summary

In the course of three days, around 30 international authors have been debating one of the major issues of our time: extremism. The result of these discussions and the fruit it can bear will be revealed in this press conference.

3.00 pm – 4.00 pm
Peace Prize winner Navid Kermani talks to other Iranian authors

Navid Kermani, German writer of Iranian descent, is seen as a bridge-builder par excellence in the dialogue between East and West. In this talk with his colleagues Fariba Vafi and Amir Hassan Cheheltan, Kermani clearly shows how lively and eloquent contemporary Iranian literature is. Language of Event: German, Englisch, Farsi

4.30 pm – 5.30 pm
Flight and displacement: Can art help?

All around the world, violence and emergencies force people to abandon their homes. The refugees are impoverished and traumatised, the societies which take them in are overwhelmed. Can art and culture be of any help? And how might sustainable interventions by cultural institutions manifest themselves?

Deutscher Jugendliteraturpreis 2015

Harmonie, Room, Congress Center, Ebene/Level C2, Exhibition site
This year’s award recipients as selected by the expert jury and the young adult jury will be announced, as well as the recipient of the special award given for the lifetime achievement of a German illustrator. Simultaneous translation into English will be available.
