American Council on the Teaching of Foreign Languages Convention in San Diego to Feature Language Teacher of the Year Award Winner

The American Council on the Teaching of Foreign Languages (ACTFL) will honor its National Language Teacher of the Year Award recipient at the organization's 2015 Annual Convention and World Languages Expo (San Diego Convention Center, November 20–22).
Finalists for the award, selected from five U.S. geographic regions, are:

  • Leni Bronstein, Williamsburg Middle School, Arlington, VA
  • Brenda Gaver, East Valley High School, Spokane, WA
  • Fernando Rubio, University of Utah, Salt Lake City, UT
  • Edward Zarrow, Westwood High School, Westwood, MA
  • Deana Zorko, Madison West High School, Madison, WI;
The  2016 National Language Teacher of the Year will be announced at the Opening General Session, November 20, 2015 from 8:30 – 10 a.m. in Ballroom 20 in the San Diego Convention Center.

According to the Council, the award for the ACTFL National Language Teacher of the Year is intended to elevate the status of the language teaching profession at the state, regional, and national levels by creating opportunities for recognizing the most accomplished members of the profession. The Language Teacher of the Year becomes a spokesperson for the language profession in order to increase the visibility of the importance of learning languages and cultures to the general public.
