The International Association of Chiefs of Police (IACP), the world's largest association of law enforcement executives, released findings yesterday of a survey of social media usage in law enforcement. Full survey results, announced at the 22nd IACP Annual Conference and Exposition in Chicago, are available online at www.theiacp.org, according to the association's news release.
In the fall of 2015, the IACP conducted its sixth annual survey of law enforcement’s use of social media. The survey addressed the current state of practice and the emerging issues surrounding social media that agencies are facing. The survey was sent electronically to law enforcement executives across the United States. A total of 553 law enforcement agencies, representing 44 states, participated.
In October 2010, the IACP launched the Center for Social Media to build the capacity of law enforcement to use social media to prevent and solve crimes, strengthen police-community relations, and enhance services. Since then, the IACP has created information and no-cost resources to help law enforcement personnel develop or enhance their agency’s use of social media and integrate these tools into agency operations.
