Drone program financing and marine, weather and environmental applications of unmanned aircraft are the focus of two sessions announced yesterday by JD Events, organizers of Drone World Expo.
On Wednesday, November 18th at 1:30 p.m., a panel discussion is scheduled on the Do's and Don'ts from the Investment Community. In addition to this new session, the event is also announcing the addition of another dynamic panel on Marine, Weather and Environmental Applications for Drones scheduled for Tuesday, November 17th at 11:45 am, all taking place at the San Jose Convention Center.
The Drone World Expo education program has been developed by leaders in the industry who are part of the event’s Advisory Board. This week, two additional industry leaders—Doug Johnson, Vice President of Technology Policy, Consumer Electronics Association (CEA), and Michael Chambliss, Technologist, International Cinematographers Guild/IATSE Local 600—have both joined the Drone World Expo Advisory Board to help set the direction for this industry leading event.
“Excitement is building in the industry as we prepare for the inaugural Drone World Expo to open in less than two weeks and we are thrilled to welcome both Doug and Michael to our Advisory Board and to be offering such an exciting educational program,” said Joel Davis, CEO of JD Events, producer of Drone World Expo. “Our goal was to assemble an Advisory Board that represented the entire commercial drone ecosystem and to build a conference program that positioned Drone World Expo as the industry’s thought leadership event, we are looking forward to bringing this goal to fruition in San Jose starting on November 17th.”
The "Look for Funding?" panel will feature some prominent drone investors in Silicon Valley, including Moderator Max Motschwiller, Meritech Capital; and panelists Jonathan Downey, Airware, Commercial Drone Fund; Gareth Keane, Qualcomm Ventures; and Viraj Tipnis, DJI-Accel SkyFund. These investors will cover the venture capital perspective on general industry topics such as commercial viability, FAA /regulation, and market timing, and will also offer specific insight into what investor frameworks look like in an industry that is still emerging. The panel will conclude with a networking session where Drone World Expo exhibitors can meet with members of the investment community.
The case study session "Marine, Weather and Environmental Applications for Drones" will feature speakers John "JC" Coffey, Cherokee Nation Technology Portfolio; Matthew Fladeland, NASA Ames Research Center; Todd Jacobs, National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA); and Philip McGillivary, US Coast Guard.
This panel will discuss how unmanned systems have the potential to efficiently, effectively, economically, and safely bridge critical observation requirements in an environmentally friendly manner. As the United States’ atmospheric, marine and arctic areas of interest expand and include hard-to-reach regions of the Earth (such as the Arctic and remote oceanic areas), optimizing unmanned capabilities will be needed to advance the United States’ science, technology and security efforts.
